It hasn’t always been th is bad, it’s evolved to the absolute disaster we call “ driving” around the greater Seattle area. Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, Costco, Nordstroms, and so many more are headquartered here so there’s plenty of jobs and lots of new people moving here daily. Fortunately I can p ick and choose when I meet with customers so I tend to avoid the worst of the traffic.

Driving anywhere on the Friday before a long weekend is asking for multiple hours of bumper to bumper traffic going nowhere in a hurry.

It has been pretty bad for almost a decade, but the last 4-5 years the upzoning and high housing prices have really cranked it up.

I couldn’t imagine  what would happen to this city if a downturn like the dot-com bust happened again...

On one August Sunday, I drove back from Bar ing at around oh maybe 2pm. It took 4 hours and 45 minutes to get back to Everett. The backup was so bad, everyone got out of their cars for about 90 minutes in Index. It reminded me of waiting for the Kingston ferry coming back from Bremerton in my childhood.
